Gong vs Salesloft: the call record against the seller's workflow

Gong vs Salesloft from each vendor's own pages: what each was built around, where they now overlap, and which fits your team.

Gong is a revenue platform built outward from recording and analyzing every customer conversation. Salesloft is a revenue platform built outward from the seller's daily workflow of cadences, calls and next steps. Each now sells into the other's ground, and both sell forecasting.

The short answer

Pick Gong when the center of gravity is the conversation record: what buyers said, across every call, feeding coaching and the forecast. Pick Salesloft when the center of gravity is seller execution: who to contact next, through which step, with conversation intelligence inside that workflow.

It is part of our guide to sales coaching platforms compared by the job they do.

What each says it is

Gong calls itself an "AI OS for Revenue Teams" built to "capture every interaction, analyze what's working, and automate what happens next", and its home page reports more than 5,000 customers. Its conversation intelligence "automatically records and transcribes every sales call, meeting, and email" and feeds three products: Gong Engage for outreach, Gong Enable for coaching and training, and Gong Forecast for pipeline risk.

Salesloft calls itself "the predictive revenue system" and says it "captures every revenue signal across your stack, separates the ones that drive outcomes from the noise, and turns them into your next move". Its comparison page lists signal-based selling, AI coaching insights, pipeline management and forecasting, and a mobile app, and argues that "having a conversation intelligence tool is not enough to drive revenue outcomes".

Clari and Salesloft completed their merger on 3 December 2025, and on 31 October 2026 clari.com loaded the Salesloft home page. For a buyer, it means the forecasting comparison is now partly a Gong-versus-Salesloft question as well.

Side by side

Each cell comes from the vendor's own pages.

The rows show the overlap. Both vendors now claim outreach, conversation intelligence, coaching and forecasting. The first row is the one that still separates them, and it decides which product a team's managers will live in.

Pick Gong when

Gong fits when managers coach from what buyers said. Its coaching product builds on the call record: identify "the talk tracks and behaviors that drive results", build "onboarding and training programs around real customer scenarios", and "deliver targeted coaching based on rep strengths and gaps". Its forecast reads deal health from "buyer engagement and sentiment". If the sales leader's first question on Monday is "what did the buyer say?", Gong was built for that question.

Gong also suits teams that already run an engagement tool they like and want the conversation layer on top. Gong's help center documents how to capture calls from Salesloft's dialer into Gong, available on any Gong plan.

Pick Salesloft when

Salesloft fits when the bottleneck is execution volume: reps working many accounts through cadences who need the platform to tell them which step to take next. Its home page describes signals flowing through an engine that "interprets data, prioritizes signals, triggers agents, and pushes next steps to revenue teams". Its coaching page ties coaching to activity: "meetings booked, opportunities created, and pipeline generated".

For SDR-heavy teams and teams that want one tool for cadences, calls and deal tracking, Salesloft is built around their day.

Four questions that settle the choice

Because the two now overlap, the decision usually comes down to which product owns each job. Four questions settle most of it:

  1. Which system records calls? Running two recorders doubles the consent and storage questions.
  2. Where do managers coach from: a call library or an activity view?
  3. Which forecast does the CRO trust, and does it read conversations or CRM fields?
  4. Who owns the cadence: the platform, or a separate engagement tool?

If the answers point to the call record, start with Gong. If they point to the seller's daily queue, start with Salesloft. If both camps exist in your team, run the integration and decide which product loses the overlapping features at renewal.

Common mistakes in a Gong vs Salesloft evaluation

Comparing them on one axis. A feature grid makes the two look almost identical because each now claims the other's ground. Ask which product your managers will open every morning. That is the one your team will run on, and the other becomes an add-on.

Pricing seats and forgetting the overlap. If you run both, you pay twice for call recording and for forecasting. Map which product owns each job before the renewal, then remove the duplicate from one contract.

Treating the merger as finished. Salesloft and Clari completed their merger in December 2025, and merged products take time to become one product. Ask to see the forecasting workflow as it runs today, in the product you would buy, and get roadmap promises in writing.

Expecting either tool to fix CRM data. Both read from your CRM and write to it. If stages and close dates are unreliable before the purchase, they will still be unreliable after it, and the forecast will reflect them.

One day in each (illustrative)

The rep, manager and deal are invented for illustration.

In Gong, Riley's call with a hospital group is recorded and summarized. Gong flags that the procurement lead joined for the first time, tracks a competitor mention, and adjusts the deal's health. Riley's manager, Jordan, opens the call in the coaching view and sees Riley talked for most of the meeting.

In Salesloft, the same call is recapped with action items and linked to the deal. A new stakeholder appears as a signal, Rhythm adds "send procurement summary" to Riley's day, and the deal shows up in Jordan's pipeline view as at risk.

Neither tool told Riley what to ask the procurement lead on Friday, and Jordan has nine other reps with deals that need the same ten minutes.

The job neither was built for

The gap in both days is the deal review: someone sitting with the rep, reading the call against the team's method, and deciding the next move. That is the manager's job, and there are never enough managers to do it for every rep on every deal. Replicate Labs builds AI sales experts for that job, so read this section as ours.

Where both days stop
  1. 01The call is recordedSummary, recap, action items
  2. 02The deal is flaggedHealth drops, or at risk in the pipeline
  3. 03The deal reviewThe call read against the team's method
  4. 04One move for FridayWhat to ask the procurement lead

Riley brings the hospital deal to Caty on a call, the way Riley would bring it to Jordan. Caty works from the transcript Riley brings from Gong or Salesloft, reads it in the team's own method, names what the deal is missing, and gives one move for Friday. Here the gap is that nobody on the buyer's side has said how the hospital group signs off. Riley leaves with the question for the procurement lead, in Riley's own words: "Before I send pricing, can you walk me through how your committee signs this off, and who besides you needs to see the business case?" Caty remembers the deal.

Jordan's side goes to Bryce, the expert that coaches managers: Bryce reads the deals across Jordan's ten reps and shows which need attention this week, with the call behind each, so Jordan walks into the 1:1 with Riley knowing which one to spend the ten minutes on. The category is explained in the AI sales coaching guide and the recorder layer in conversation intelligence.

One caution applies to any AI coaching insight, from Gong, Salesloft or us: check the quotes. In our call-scoring study, a cheap evidence-extraction step produced quotes of which a fifth were not in the call. The tests are in how to evaluate AI sales coaching software, the trial plan in how to run an AI sales coaching pilot, and our ranked list at best AI sales coaching software. Our page on Replicate Labs vs Gong covers how the two fit together.

Some teams finish this comparison needing neither platform whole: if the job is forecasting alone, our Clari alternatives page sorts the options by what they do, and if the job is call scoring, Attention vs Gong covers five tests to run on any AI call scorer before you buy.

FAQ

What is the difference between Gong and Salesloft? Gong is built around the record of customer conversations, with outreach, coaching and forecasting built on that record. Salesloft is built around the seller's workflow of cadences and next steps, with conversation intelligence and forecasting inside it. Both now offer outreach, call analysis, coaching and forecasting.

Does Salesloft have conversation intelligence? Yes. Salesloft's comparison page describes AI that recaps conversations, delivers action items and identifies key moments for coaching, and its Conversations product links takeaways to deals. Salesloft argues on the same page that conversation intelligence alone is not enough without seller actions.

Does Gong do sales engagement? Yes. Gong Engage personalizes outreach using buyer language from calls, triggers follow-ups from call insights and deal stage, and prioritizes accounts by engagement signals, according to Gong's conversation intelligence page. Salesloft's cadence and signal workflow is the core of its product.

Is Clari part of Salesloft? Yes. Clari and Salesloft completed their merger on 3 December 2025, according to Salesloft's newsroom, and clari.com now loads the Salesloft home page. For a buyer, it means forecasting is now part of the Gong and Salesloft comparison as well.

Can I use Gong and Salesloft together? Yes. Gong's help center documents capturing Salesloft dialer calls into Gong, and some teams run Salesloft for cadences with Gong as the conversation record. Running both means paying for overlapping features such as call recording and forecasting, so map which product owns each job before renewal.
