AI roleplay in sales is practice against a simulated buyer: an AI persona that talks back, raises objections and scores the rep against a rubric.
Setting up a scenario, and where it stops
Enablement or a manager sets up a scenario, such as a discovery call with a skeptical finance director, and a persona with a company, a role and likely objections. The rep runs the conversation by voice or chat, as many times as they like, and gets a score and feedback at the end.

- 04Score and feedbackMeasures performance inside the scenario
Generic roleplay is useful for skills that are the same across every deal: a pitch, a launch message, a cold-call opener. Its score measures performance inside the scenario. It cannot see the rep's open deals, which is where the AI sales coaching guide argues most of the coaching is needed.
We build roleplays the other way round. The expert starts from the rep's live deal and the team's own buyer personas, builds a short roleplay around the moment the rep is worried about, scores it on the same scorecard the team uses for real calls, and debriefs it afterward. On a generic deal that expert is Caty.
Two minutes inside a deal prep
This example is illustrative. A rep, Robin, has a call coming up with a buyer who has already asked about price twice. During a prep call with Caty, Robin says the price question is the part that worries her. Caty builds a two-minute roleplay from the deal: a buyer persona who pushes on price before the cost of the problem has been agreed. Robin runs it twice out loud. In the debrief Caty points out that both times Robin quoted a number before asking what the delay was costing, and they agree a holding line for the call. Then they go back to planning the discovery questions.
What good looks like after a roleplay like this: the rep can say the holding line without reading it, and the next live call shows the buyer naming a cost before price comes up. What bad looks like: a high practice score and the same early discount on the real call.

FAQ
What is AI sales roleplay used for? Practicing conversations that repeat across deals: a pitch, a new product message, a standard objection, a cold-call opener. It gives reps repetitions without practicing on real prospects or in front of their manager.
How is roleplay different from AI sales coaching? Roleplay is practice against a simulated buyer. AI sales coaching works the rep's real deals, preparing the next buyer conversation and debriefing the last one. Our experts build a short roleplay from the deal inside that prep, then debrief it.
Does AI roleplay improve real sales calls? It can, when the scenario matches the rep's own deals and someone follows up on the live call. Training research finds that support back at work predicts whether a practiced skill gets used.
