What is an AI manager coach?

An AI manager coach is software that reads across a sales team's deals and coaching sessions and tells the manager which deals and reps need them this week, and why.

What it reads, and what the manager does with it

Reps work their deals with an AI coach: they prepare buyer calls with it and debrief afterwards. The manager coach reads across all of it. It shows each deal staged by the buyer evidence it has, names what each one is missing, and spots patterns, such as a rep who keeps reaching proposal without a named economic buyer.

The manager uses that read to choose where to spend the hour they have, and can talk it through with the manager coach before a one-to-one or a pipeline review. Judgment about people stays with the manager. What goes are the hours spent listening to recordings to find out what is going on. The AI sales coaching guide covers the rep side; our AI sales expert for managers is Bryce, and the docs describe what he reads.

A Monday pipeline review

This example is illustrative. On Monday morning a manager with nine reps and 46 open deals asks the manager coach which deals need a decision before Friday. It returns four: two with no cost on the problem after three meetings, one where the champion has gone quiet, and one where procurement appeared without a decision process mapped. It also notes that one rep has the same gap on three deals. The manager spends the pipeline review on the four deals and books a one-to-one with that rep about the pattern.

The one question to test it with

Ask it: "Which deal would you pull from commit, and what is the evidence?" Below are two answers about one of the two no-cost deals from that Monday read.

A weak tool: "The warehouse deal: 14 emails sent, last touch 9 days ago, engagement down." That tells the manager the rep is busy. It says nothing about what the buyer has agreed to.

A useful one: "The warehouse deal. Three meetings in, nobody on the buyer side has put a cost on the problem, the close date has moved twice, and the operations director said finance 'hasn't seen it yet'. Pull it until the rep has the number from the buyer."

The second answer names the deal, the missing buyer action and the quote it rests on, so the manager can check it in five minutes and take it into the one-to-one.

FAQ

What does an AI coach for sales managers do? An AI coach for sales managers reads across the team's deals and coaching sessions and tells the manager which deals need a decision and which reps keep missing the same thing. The manager uses that read to plan one-to-ones and pipeline reviews.

Is an AI manager coach the same as a sales dashboard? A dashboard shows numbers and leaves the reading to the manager. A manager coach names what each deal is missing and which reps need help, and the manager can talk the read through with it before a meeting.

Will the manager still need to listen to calls? The manager will still listen to some calls, but far fewer. The manager coach saves the hours spent finding out what is happening, so the manager's time goes to decisions and to the conversations that depend on knowing the person.
