A sales playbook is the written standard for each moment of your sale: the evidence to get from the buyer, the plays that get it, and what good sounds like.
How it works in a sales team
Enablement or a sales leader writes it, usually from the team's methodology and transcripts of won deals. Each deal moment, such as first discovery or pricing, gets its exit evidence (what the buyer must have said before the deal moves on), the questions that have worked, the common objections and the next step.

Writing down the reason behind each level of "good" matters: in our call-scoring research with PeerLab, adding trained assessors' reasons lifted our AI scorer's average fit with human scores from 0.62 to 0.72, the largest single gain. Those written reasons are also what a coach quotes back to the rep when a call lands at a level. The playbook then becomes the certification rubric and the brief for every coaching call. Reps open it when it answers the question in front of them, which is what to ask this buyer next. The full procedure is in how to build a sales playbook.
One discovery play, three answers (illustrative)
A first-discovery play for a logistics software team: ask "How do you measure on-time delivery today, and where does it sit against target?" A strong answer gives the measure and a number in the buyer's words. An adequate one names the measure and the rep agrees to get the number. A miss is "it's a big problem", which leaves the deal unsized. The next step is the buyer sharing last quarter's report before the business case call.

A playbook can also become an AI sales expert of its own, one your reps call when they prep a deal. Talk to us if you have one written and want to try that, or see the enablers page.
FAQ
What is the difference between a sales play and a sales playbook? A sales play is one repeatable approach to one situation, such as getting the buyer's success metric in discovery. The playbook is the full set of plays for every moment of the sale, with the evidence each moment needs.
What should a sales playbook include? For each deal moment: the exit evidence, the plays, what strong and weak versions sound like with reasons, common objections and the next step. Personas, product detail and collateral sit behind those as reference.
Why do reps ignore the sales playbook? Usually because it is written as a reference manual and nobody brings it into the deal. Organize it by deal moment and have a manager or coach use the right play when prepping each important call.
